Ethicquette

Hey readers, I need your advice.

I'm pretty excited that, for the past few weeks, I've been writing daily and furiously but I'm even more excited because I've been working on the project I began last November.

There was a time I was really afraid it would stay stored in its computer folder and never see the light of day. Writer's block had set in last spring but honestly, I didn't do much to move past it because I was too focused on wedding plans. Which, btw, gave me the perfect excuse not to write so I went with it.

I'm thankful to NaNoWriMo for being the goose that got me going again and I'm not even bothered that I spent part of November starting two separate projects, which together total something like 15,000 words or that I'm not sure if I still qualify to continue in the competition.

What do you think? If I add an additional 50,000 NEW words to my year long project (by new I mean words that express new ideas or create new scenes, not words used to re-write already written scenes), do you think I still qualify?

I'm sure I could look it up in the fine print somewhere or go onto a message board and ask but honestly, between checking email and Facebook, I'm already too distracted by the Internet that I don't want to lose another hour or more researching it today because I'm on a roll. It's bad enough that I'm taking a break to blog but I know that some of my students read this blog (well, at least I know of a lovely young lady and a quirky young gentleman who do: thanks, kids - I love you!) and so I thought I'd chance it and pose the question to my readers.

So, What's La Pointe of It All? Well, readers, hook a sista up: I trust your opinions and will abide by your decisions. Do you think I can ethically continue as part of NaNoWriMo based on what you've read in this post or should I gracefully remove my hat from the ring and try again next year? Thanks for helping me!

  1. I absolutely think that will count! 50,000 words in a month is still 50,000 more words than most of us can write :)
    Go for it!!
